Our Philosophy of Practice

The goal of our team is to serve companion animals and their caretakers by providing 24 hour emergency and critical care which meets or exceeds the standards set by the American Animal Hospital Association and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. Our pledge is to provide compassion and understanding for both owner and pet, whether giving support by telephone, in person, or after a visit to our hospital. Any decision we make is based primarily on the well-being of the animal; the following values help us to make difficult decisions:

  1. We value all life. During the time an animal life is placed in our care, we will offer all opportunities to sustain that life. If suffering cannot be alleviated, or hope for return to an acceptable quality of life cannot be given, we pledge to convey this with compassion to the animal caretaker.
  2. 100 percent of our time and skills will be devoted to what we do best. For that reason we will refer all patients to a family veterinary practice after their need for emergency or critical care has passed.
  3. Education and training of our team is a top priority. Accreditation of our staff and our facility in the field of emergency and critical care is an ongoing process.
  4. We value the trust placed in us by the veterinarians of the Lower Mainland and will work to maintain that trust. We recognise that timely communication is a key element in an ethical relationship. We promise to keep multi-level communication paths open amongst all members of the pet health team.
  5. Our practice is a business. The above goals can only be achieved when we manage our business in a financially responsible manner.
